Flavor enhancers are substances added to foods to enhance or improve the taste of the food. If a product contains flavor enhancers, it is always listed under the E number on the label. All flavor enhancers have an E number. This means that the substance has been checked by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and it is safe. An E number is only obtained if it is actually proven that the flavor enhancer is not harmful to health. However, this does not necessarily mean that the flavor enhancer is healthy.
