Q&A: What is the Froude number?
What is the Froude number?
The Froude number is a dimensionless number and determines the weightlessness of the product during the mixing cycle. If the number is greater than 1, this means that the product will float during the “throw-in phase” in a paddle mixer.
$Fr\ =\frac{\left(R⋅ω²\right)}{g}$
- Fr = Froude number
- R = The radius in meters with which the product moves upwards. Tip of the blade
- ω = The angular velocity. A paddle spins a circle
- g = The gravitational acceleration, so gravitational acceleration, 9.81
$ω\ =\frac{2\ *\ π}{T}$
- ω = Angular displacement in radians per second. The paddle spins in a circle
- T = Time in seconds, of 1 revolution
