How can I unload big bags?
A Big Bag can be unloaded from the top or the bottom. Unloading a Big Bag from above (emptying it) is only done for incidental use or when the product flow is very small. The unloading of a Big Bag usually takes place at the bottom. There is a distinction between Big Bags with and without discharge spout. Big Bags without discharge spout can be cut open from the bottom by placing them on a knife. The Big Bag will then tear open and the product will fall into an underlying funnel. The disadvantage is that particles from the Big Bag itself can end up in the product flow. Another disadvantage is that the Big Bag cannot be used after emptying. Big Bags with discharge spout can be hung in a discharge pipe. There are possibilities to clamp the trunk mechanically or with an inflatable bellows. The advantage of an inflatable bellows is that it prevents leakage of the product and thus less dust formation. For products that flow easily, there are sticks that can be pinned into the wall of a Big Bag. The product flow can then be regulated with a hand slide. This is used for occasional use where the Big Bag is hanging on the forks of the lift truck. Unloading stations are usually used for frequent use. These stations with hoist are specially designed for Big Bags with or without a trunk. Without a trunk, the bottom is cut open as described above.
